Are You Really Alone? 7 Ways To Connect With Other As You Work

When you’re self-employed, it’s natural to feel like you’re a little bit lonely. If you’re freelance, you may spend a lot of time alone. You work for yourself and usually by yourself too. It’s why the term solopreneur came into place because you’re essentially doing everything alone. You’re running a full business as a one-person party. But that’s okay, because you’re doing a great job. But at the same time, if you’ve ever worked in an environment and had colleagues before, you may be missing that. Maybe you are starting to realize that the entrepreneur or freelance life is a little lonely?

At the same time, if you’ve been doing this for a long time or you’re more introverted, you may be fine with that. Maybe working alone is a huge selling point to you. But it’s also important to realize that you’re not really alone. Or, that you don’t have to be completely alone if that’s not what you want.

Whether you’re looking to connect with others as you work or you feel as if you’d love to know more about how you are connected to others, this article is for you. Even if you’ve already automated your business, you can still keep connected in one of these seven ways.

1. Work In A Cafe

For starters, it might be nice for you to just head out to a local café. Sometimes, working among others and being in a place with people that are working or catching up with friends can really lift you up. And oddly, it can also help you to stay more focused too.

2. Join A Networking Group

The next thing that you might want to do is to look for a networking group to be part of. This could be in the form of going to some kind of networking event and meeting people, or joining different groups online. You can then connect with others and it might make you feel less alone.

3. Join A Co-Working Place

As a step on from that, you might want to think about joining a coworking space. These days, there are offices and setups that have been made specifically for freelancers and other self-employed people. Maybe you don’t like working from home all of the time and having a membership to a place can help you to meet people and connect.

4. Make Freelance Friends

It’s always nice to have colleagues. And while you work alone, you can still technically find some by making friends with other freelancers that do what you do. Having these people to keep you company, to quiz, and to ask questions to can make such a difference to your loneliness.

5. Connect With Other Freelancers

But then also, you could look to connect with other freelancers – and this can work in a range of ways. You may find that as a writer, you’re using file sharing software with designers or SEOs or marketers or IT teams. This allows you to make connections. Not only that, but you guys could help refer each other to clients which would also benefit your businesses too.

6. Meet Your Clients Regularly

Another thing that you can do is to make sure that you’re having meetings with your clients regularly. If you love the idea of being around people more, just be sure to schedule regular catch ups so you can get out and about into the world and interact with others more.

7. Chat Regularly

Something else that you might want to do is to make sure that you’re chatting regularly with other freelancers. As you start to make friends, you could arrange catch-ups or just be sure to be online and messaging them throughout the week. You could even get on zoom and just sort of have that running while you work so it feels like you’re co-working. There are lots of ways to do this, you just have to be sure it’s a way that suits you!

It’s easy to see how and why you could feel alone in the world of business. But as you can see, there are plenty of ways for you to keep connected. Whether this is something that you actively want to do or not, reaching out to others and having a range of interactions is such a great way to thrive as a freelancer. And you never know how different doors can open for you in this way too.
